Christian Education

Our Christian Education commitment takes a number of forms.  or young people we offer Sunday School at 11.15 where the main focus is on building relationships and creating a sense that the Church is a friendly place to be and we participate in Assemblies and Class discussion in our local schools.  Also we are indebted to Captain Pat Ritchie and her staff who work tirelessly to run our BB Company of Anchor Boys, Junior Section and Company Section

In the 1990s we ran a very active Youth Group that gathered youngsters from across all the Kirriemuir Churches and beyond. However at this stage the cycle of Youth Involvement is on a downturn but the local Strathmore Fellowship’s youth activities are on the up and we are quite happy that there is a facility for young people in the community.

Members of the Congregation also assist with the running of the local Scripture Union summer holiday club.

We have joined with our WAAM friends to run the Kerygma Bible Study Programme.  This comprises 30 x 1˝ hour sessions and there are around 30 attending.  The Kerygma Course is run by two members. In addition to Kerygma our 9.00am services works through books of the Bible in a systematic manner  We read through the Book of Acts over a 12 month+ period … we are currently studying the Book of Revelation.  In addition we have looked at the Book of Haggai as well a 1st and 2nd Kings.

In terms of internal development the major focus in the past two years has been centred on the Area Team Ministry Project.  A decision was taken to work with the paid leadership teams of the three WAAM Congregations (and for a short time St Andrew’s l/w Oathlaw Tannadice).  This involved day workshops that developed teamwork and leadership awareness.

The teamwork sessions were based upon all members completing the Myres Briggs Personality Type indicator because it was felt that leaders should know themselves and their own strengths and weaknesses before they worked with others.

The leadership workshops looked at George Barna’s book “Fish out of Water”.  This book suggests that leadership in a Christian context is very much about ethos and the atmosphere created in congregations.

Looking to the future the following areas are worthy of attention …

bulletThe development of the skills of pastoral care
bulletA re–running of Kerygma
bulletThe Area Team Ministry 4 day module on Spirituality
bulletPossible use the Mission and Discipleship’s support staff to help us develop our worship

Finally  Linda and  Malcolm would like to thank Maggie Orr for all that she has done in ensuring that the training of  our CPO, Office bearers and ministers of  the Congregation is up to date and complies with the child protection code.
