Malcolm Rooney is a native of Ballachulish and was a teacher of Physical Education  for 16 years before entering the ministry. He was called to Kirriemuir Old Parish in 1993 and in 1999, there came the union of the Glens and Kirriemuir Old into one congregation. At the service of union, the Moderator spoke about Malcolm’s capacity for hard work. He congratulated him on his part in building up Kirriemuir Old to its position of strength, and looked forward to seeing how, under his leadership, the new, united charge would grow and prosper in many exciting ways. Malcolm is assisted in his work by an Administrator, a Team Minister, a Pastoral Team and a very large team of lay volunteers.

He is particularly interested in the development of Spirituality using the old Celtic Anamchara model of Soul Friends and Spiritual Conversation.

In addition to Parish duties Malcolm served as Clerk to the Presbytery of Angus from 1997 to 2006.  He is currently one of the Presbytery’s Pastoral Advisers.

In the National Church    Malcolm has been a member of the Church of Scotland Assembly Council Spirituality Study Group,  and the National Mission Task Force for Change and he was the first Convener of the    Area Team Ministry Development Group which has recently been hailed as a genuinely new concept for the Church of Scotland and the Ministry of the future [see the Church of Scotland Web Site for more information].   Currently he is the Convener of the Ministries Council’s Communication Task Group.

In whatever spare time is available he enjoys gardening, hillwalking, fishing and golfing as well as reading and bashing a tune from his grandfather’s button key accordion.
