KIRRIEMUIR "SPLASH 2007" - SATURDAY 22nd SEPTEMBER

This year will be our eighteenth annual "Splash" sponsored relay swim which will take place at Webster's Leisure Centre on Saturday,  22nd September  from 1.30 pm.  Past efforts have raised many thousands of pounds for home and overseas charities, thanks to the enthusiastic support of firms, schools, organisations - and the generosity of Tayside folk.

"Splash" is jointly sponsored by four Kirriemuir churches - St Anthony's, St Mary's, St Andrews and the Glens And Kirriemuir Old Parish  and this year supports Aberlour Child Care Trust; Water Aid; Rachel House; Christian Aid; Pelotas Childrens Home Brazil; Sight Savers International; Aids Project in Uganda (SCIAF); Budimex Children’s Hospital, Rumania. All money raised goes directly to these carefully chosen recipients, without delay.

Presentations are given to all the local schools before the event to encourage as much sponsorship as possible and local businesses are approached to sponsor lanes as well as putting in teams.

The event consists of teams of 8 swimmers swimming as many lengths of the pool as they can in the allotted time - usually 25 minutes.  The overall winning team is awarded the Splash Shield.  There is a Junior Shield awarded to the under 12 team with the most lengths  and a Community Quaich given to the team with the most lengths who do not belong to a school or swimming club.

The day is great fun with all the churches working together with the community to raise funds for very worthwhile causes.
